Top 10 Worship Songs of 2012: (Also, Christmas Carol Worship); Includes “Behold Our God”,”Lay Me Down”,”O the Blood”, & more! (Ep 019)

Play

This episode lists my personal favorite new (to me) praise and worship songs that I had discovered in 2012.

Being that when this was recorded, we were still in the Christmas season (which many Christians celebrate until the Feast of the Epiphany, which this year is Jan 6), the episode begins with some worship based off of Christmas Carols.

Every song that made my countdown will have a snippet played, an examination of its lyrical content, a demonstration of how I would play it in a live setting, and my recommendations as to the best places to play these songs.

Each song that made the list is under copyright and thus I am unable to play any of these songs in their entirety on this podcast, until granted such by the copyright holders. But they are under CCLI (Christian copyright licensing incorporated); license holders have permission to display lyrics to these songs for their church services, youth groups, etc. To join CCLI, go to www.ccli.com.

A songsheet is available. Right-click to Download.

UNAM PETII A DOMINO
Roman Gradual

Unam petii a Domino, hanc requiram:
ut inhabitem in domo Domini omnibus diebus vitae meae.

One thing have I asked of the Lord, this I will seek;
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my whole life.

O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL
J.F.Wade, 1751
O Come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come, ye, o come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels

O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!

Sing choirs of angels, sing in exultation
Sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above
Glory to God in the highest!

ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH!
French Carol Melody

Angels we have heard on high
Singing sweetly o’er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echo back their joyous gains

Glo – ria! in excelsis Deo.
Glo – ria! in excelsis De – o.

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing
Come adore on bended knee
Christ the newborn King.

SILENT NIGHT
Franz Grueber, 1818

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy Holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth!
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth!
